Govt. will track Tax Evaders Through Aadhaar Card
The govt of india will keep a strict watchful eye on people who buy cars, jewellery, homes and also invest in finance ,but don’t declare any taxable income and this will be done with the help of the Aadhaar.
Govt. has allowed using the Permanent Account Number (PAN) interchangeable with Aadhaar in high value transactions, people who provide their Aadhaar number will be issued PAN automatically and also to make PANs which aren’t linked with Aadhaar inoperative from September 1- are major decision which will help the authorities to track tax evaders .
Currently, for selling or purchasing goods and services for more than Rs 2 lakh per transaction, Aadhaar is required. Aadhaar is also required to pay restaurant and hotel bills that exceeds Rs 50,000.
There are some 220 million PANs issued in india so far, but this number is less than one-fifth of the 1.23 billion Aadhaar numbers that have used by the UIDAI, the authority that issues Aadhaar numbers.
An official on the condition of anonymity told Hindustan Times that from now on, the people who don’t have PAN will have to produced Aadhaar in case they make big-ticket transactions. This will be implemented in rural areas too and it will help authorities to identify the tax evaders.
The finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced the three decisions in her fiscal 2019-20 budget speech in the parliament on July 5 quoted the following
“Therefore, for ease and convenience of tax payers, I propose to make PAN and Aadhaar interchangeable and allow those who do not have PAN to file Income Tax returns by simply quoting their Aadhaar number and also use it wherever they are required to quote PAN,” said the finance minister while announcing the interchangeability of PAN and Aadhaar.
